Gastrointestinal Diseases
Traditionally, hyperbaric oxygen treatment has been used to treat variety of medical conditions, including decompression sickness and healing of problem wounds. However, some investigators have used HBOT to treat refractory gastrointestinal conditions that failed traditional therapy. Such conditions include inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) (including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), radiation proctitis, radiation enteritis, acute pancreatitis, postoperative ileus, and non-healing anal fissure just to mention a few.
